The Marvelous Side of Social Media.

Doctrine and Covenants 4:1–3 reads :

"Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength...For behold, the field is white already to harvest."

 For many years, I've watched it happen right on my phone. One post was used to lift someone out of discouragement when they needed it most.  A lot of ways I've seen social media used for marvelous works are to inspire others, share a 30-second scripture, share a testimony in video or in writing, or share how someone got through a hard week. I know that's God using a small voice to do a big work through his people.

 Two ways I have seen God come through for others through social media are  through: 

Charitable deed, like a monetary donation

People have seen financial aid through GoFundMe links for medical bills, hurricane relief, and single moms, shared and funded in hours. Social media turns one person's need into a whole community's response. That's loaves and fishes in digital form.

Acts of service to others

From meal trains organized in Facebook groups to volunteers showing up after a natural disaster because they saw a post in youth groups using Instagram to coordinate service projects, and TikTok used to share GoFundMe stories. Social media has played a pivotal role in many lives, from creators volunteering to cut others' yards to cleaning their homes for free, and assisting the homeless in getting back to a stable lifestyle. 

 Apart from spreading humor and showcasing my charismatic side, I want to post content that points people to Christ and shows love, not just for likes, but to encourage and uplift. I want to use my social media accounts to help meet others' needs, give when I can, and invite others to share too. I want to organize and show up for real acts of service, like assisting older people with washing and cooking, buying groceries, helping with medical bills, etc., and let people know how they can join. Social media can be used for more than just entertainment; it can also be sacred. Every scroll is a chance, every post is a chance to make good efforts, encourage someone, congratulate others, be kind, and spread cheer and laughter.
